Straight and Narrow -- Day 1 of the 2017 Great Race
We've spent the last few days in Jacksonville, Florida getting ready for the 2017 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty. It's time to wind down from Day 1 of the race, and it was a hot one! It was an awesome turnout at the Grand Start, which took place on Main Street in the Historic Springfield District. The Coker Tire sponsored team car is once again the beautiful Chevy II of Gary and Jean Ann Martin. The Martins had an awesome day, with a raw score of 2 seconds, which came out to 1.94 seconds after their car's age factor was calculated. With that type of score, the Martins are on task to get out front and take the lead, but they'll have to string together a few awesome days to do it. Our final destination of the day was the beautiful downtown of Tifton, Georgia, and the town welcomed us with open arms. We're super excited about tomorrow's route, as it lands in our hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee! We're welcoming the racers with a cruise in, and a delicious catered dinner in the museum. The event is held at 1317 Chestnut Street in downtown Chattanooga and we'll be hanging out from 4 to 8pm. For now, let's take a look at today's highlights, including a picture of the Pace Car, driven by Corky Coker...it's a Volkswagen Atlas, which is a brand new model being produced in the Chattanooga, Tennessee plant.
